One of the largest problems today in communication is most people cannot define the meaning of various topics or words spoken. Why do you think we have so many arguments in the world? The fact is few understand what is, said to them. Why, well let's take a look at a list of words and its definition to help you see why.

Words:

Canvas – picture – work of art – image – oil – watercolor – print

Comprehend – follow – understand – know – realize – grasp – get – figure out- to have a handle on it

Define – describe – name – classify – identify – label – characterize – term – delineate – mark out – delimit – demarcate – circumscribe

Warranty – lawful promise

Now, we can consider sentences to see where you go with the comprehension.

1. The company provided a warranty with its product, which claimed to support the product for one year.

2. The painter set up his studio, preparing to complete his mission.

3. We sometimes realize that our country is in serious trouble, yet we fail to recognize the meaning, since we have little control.

4. The author wrote an outline, which demarcated her story.

Of the four sentences, all have comprehensible words that define and clarify a meaning, yet one or more sentences may be too broad, or too narrow.

What product is the company providing a warranty? Well, does it truly matter? Is there a purpose that drives us to know what product the company is selling? Do we need to know the companies name? Well, if you were considering a product of interest and a company to purchase, you would need more detail.

We see in paragraph two, that the painter is canvassing his studio, preparing to paint or create an image. We have a comprehensive sentence.

In paragraph, three we can appreciate the information giving to us, and read from the message that we as the people must take a stand to fight back for our country. We see that problems do exist.

The fourth paragraph is narrow. While we have a noun and verb in action, we have no clue where this author is heading. We see she/he is starting a story, since the author has an outline in progress, as well we see she/he intends to write a story that all can comprehend. What we know thereafter will require additional information.

The purpose:

The purpose of the paragraphs was to obtain meaning, and to see what we comprehend from the brief detail.

Now you try it. We can consider:

Words:

Always

Laryngeal

Etiology

Pathophysiology

Now, do not allow the complication of the last three words hinder you from comprehending what you read.

  1. 1. She always stood up for what she believed in and never once did she let down her guard.
  2.
  3. 2. Laryngeal cancer is affecting scores of people and some of the causes may link to tobacco, alcoholism, straining of voice, environmental exposure to pollutants, and radiation exposure.

  6.
  7. 4. Pathophysiology states that laryngeal cancer causes unregulated growth of cells, and uncontrolled division of cells, which results in neoplasm development.
